The Problem

The UK dental workforce crisis is structural. Not temporary.

3,160 dentist vacancies across NHS and private sectors. 21% of NHS general dentist posts unfilled. 97% of new NHS patients turned away. The Dental Recovery Plan confirmed failed.

The Official Verdict

Parliament has declared the Government's plan to fix NHS dentistry a comprehensive failure, with the dental contract unfit for purpose and no future for the service without workforce reform.

Do we choose the dentist, or does Dentello?+

You do. Dentello sources and pre-assesses candidates matched to your practice, but the final decision is always yours. You interview and approve the dentist before any placement proceeds. Dentello then handles everything from activation to onboarding.

Is there really no upfront fee?+

Yes. There is no upfront fee under any model. You pay nothing to start. The fee is performance-linked, so you only pay as your dentist delivers. In England that is from £14 per UDA. In Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland it is a percentage of gross revenue. For private practices it is 10% of gross revenue.

How long does it take to place a dentist?+

It depends on your unique situation, including whether the dentist is already in the UK or arriving from overseas. Dentello manages the sponsorship licence, Skilled Worker visa, GDC registration and NHS activation in parallel to compress the timeline as much as possible. Talk to Dentello and we will assess your situation and give you a realistic timeline.

Do you handle the visa and sponsorship licence?+

Yes. Dentello handles the entire process for you, not just coordination. Sponsorship licence, Skilled Worker visa, GDC registration, NHS performer number and onboarding are all managed by Dentello, with any third party costs passed through at cost price. Home Office and visa fees are payable separately where applicable.

What does the replacement guarantee cover?+

If a dentist placed by Dentello leaves during the agreement, Dentello sources and activates a replacement at no additional recruitment fee for approved clinics. This is part of the workforce stability built into every agreement, alongside locum protection and ongoing monitoring.

Which practice types can use Dentello?+

NHS, mixed and private practices across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Independent practices, dental groups and DSOs all use Dentello. Each has a pricing model matched to its contract type and country.

What is the difference between the England and the other UK models?+

England uses the UDA system, so the fee is from £14 per UDA and includes the dentist's pay. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland use fee-per-item or care package contracts, so the fee is a percentage of gross revenue. Whichever applies to you, there is no upfront fee and the fee is always performance-linked.

Can dental groups use Dentello across multiple sites?+
